Nominations Open for IMEA Governing Council

The Governing Council shall work with the President to govern the day-to-day operations of the organization. The Governing Council shall consist of volunteer members of the International Music and Entertainment Association. To be eligible to seek an office on the Governing Council, an individual must be an active member of the organization. The Governing Council is elected by the membership to serve a two year term.

Reports to: President and Council

Aside from the President, the Governing Council shall consist of the following positions:

  • Chair of Music Division
  • Chair of Theatre Division
  • Chair of Film Division
  • Chair of Fundraising
  • Chair of Education
  • Chair of Member Services
  • Chair of Marketing and Communications
  • Chair of Area Director Program
  • Secretary, Member-at-Large
  • Member-at-Large

2017 Election: The 2017 election shall take place November 1-3. Only active members of the Association may vote in this election. The deadline for nominations shall end October 13, 2017.

Interested candidates shall express written interest prior to the October 13th deadline. Please send an email to President Colt Chambers at and include the position you are interested in, a high-level overview of your qualifications, why you would like to serve, and what makes you the best candidate for the position you plan to seek.

Members of the Governing Council may participate in the annual IMEA Awards unless they are selected to serve on the Nominating and/or Voting Committee.

Please see below for each position’s description and responsibilities.

CHAIR OF MUSIC DIVISION

  • Shall serve as chairperson of the Music Division committee.
  • Brainstorm, recommend, and implement potential benefits, program ideas, discounts, and events that would be of interest to members in the music industry.
  • Work with his/her committee to finalize eligibility information and judging sheet for the annual IMEA Awards.
  • Work with his/her committee to develop a list of potential qualified individuals to serve on the Nominating and Voting Committees of the annual IMEA Awards.
  • Keep up with the latest legal and legislation issues related to the music industry that might be of interest to IMEA members.
  • Additional Qualifications: Should have experience in and knowledge of the music industry as an artist/songwriter, manager, record company, producer, etc.

CHAIR OF THEATRE DIVISION

  • Shall serve as chairperson of the Theatre Division committee.
  • Brainstorm, recommend, and implement potential benefits, program ideas, discounts, and events that would be of interest to theatre members.
  • Work with his/her committee to finalize eligibility information and judging sheet for the annual IMEA Awards.
  • Work with his/her committee to develop a list of potential qualified individuals to serve on the Nominating and Voting Committees of the annual IMEA Awards.
  • Brainstorm and determine ways to reach new theatre members through outreach.
  • Work with committee to implement resources and benefits for playwrights, in addition to theatre companies.
  • Keep up with the latest legal and legislation issues related to the theatre industry that might be of interest to IMEA members.
  • Additional Qualifications: Should have experience in and knowledge of the theatre/entertainment industry as an artistic director, producer, company manger, etc.

CHAIR OF MUSIC DIVISION

  • Shall serve as chairperson of the Film Division committee.
  • Work with committee and Council to implement a Film division/program within the organization and eventually into the annual IMEA Awards.
  • Brainstorm, recommend, and implement potential benefits, program ideas, discounts, and events that would be of interest to members in the film industry.
  • Keep up with the latest legal and legislation issues related to the film industry that might be of interest to IMEA members.
  • Additional Qualifications: Should have experience in and knowledge of the film industry as filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, etc.

CHAIR OF FUNDRAISING

  • Shall serve as the chairperson of the Fundraising committee.
  • Will work with division and committee chairs to implement fundraising strategies.
  • Will work with committee to raise funds for various events, programs, and the Foundation.
  • Will develop sponsorship packets for IMEA events and be responsible, along with other members, to solicit sponsors.
  • Recruit members to help with fundraising efforts.
  • Work with the President to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Additional Qualifications: Experience with fundraising, sponsorships, and event planning.

CHAIR OF EDUCATION

  • Shall serve as the chairperson of the Education committee.
  • Work with committee to explore and implement educational opportunities for members in all division.
  • Keep up with the latest issues regarding arts education.
  • Work with other committee chairs to develop educational programming, such as webinars and workshops.
  • Additional Qualifications: Experience or interest in developing educational and learning opportunities.

CHAIR OF MEMBERSHIP SERVICES

  • Shall serve as the chairperson of the Membership Services committee.
  • Work with other committee chairs to implement membership recruiting plans.
  • Develop, implement, and lead, along with the President, the annual membership drive.
  • Work with other committee chairs to develop, implement, and maintain membership benefits and services.
  • Update and maintain IMEA’s online member portal and promote online resources.
  • Work with Chair of Marketing and Communications to publish the monthly member-newsletter.

CHAIR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Shall serve as the chairperson of the Marketing and Communications committee.
  • Work with other committee chairs to determine communication needs.
  • Work with Membership Services Chair to publish monthly newsletter and delegate tasks.
  • Work with President to send out regular communications to members.
  • Work with President and other committee chairs to maintain website.
  • Serve as a leader in developing graphic design material, sponsorship packets, etc.
  • Additional Qualifications: Experience with website maintenance, public relations, graphic design, etc.

CHAIR OF AREA DIRECTOR PROGRAM

  • Shall work closely with President to implement an Area Director / Regional Director program.
  • Provide assistance to Area Directors and other Council members as needed.
  • Shall preside at meetings in the President’s absence.
  • Must serve on at least one committee.

SECRETARY, MEMBER-AT-LARGE

  • Shall record and maintain minutes of Governing Council meetings and committee meetings when available.
  • Shall be of assistance to fellow members of the Council.
  • Shall send out meeting reminders to Council.

MEMBER-AT-LARGE

  • Support the best interests of the organization and membership.
  • Provide support to fellow Council members.
  • Serve on at least one committee.
  • Assist with planning and execution of events, fundraising efforts, etc.
